Betting on Boy or Girl

Wednesday, 17 November 2010 14:12 by Kim

In Series 1: Episode 4, the No Peeking Team bet on whether they thought Joe & Dana were having a boy or a girl.  Since they were short a painter, they decided that the loser had to paint the nursery.

Nursery Styling Before & After

Nursery Styling with Peekaboo Design Group

Nursery styling at Peekaboo can be done at several different stages of the nursery's progression.  Generally, a client calls us when they've started the nursery, but have become too overwhelmed by the process to finish.  After all, it's more difficult to assemble a nursery than one may think, especially when you're trying to prepare for so much else on such limited time and  energy.

In Sam and Laurie's case, we came in at the beginning.  They knew that they were having a baby boy so I conducted the nursery psych test taking Laurie through a ton of boy nursery photos so that I could get an idea of what she liked best.  From there, I put together a digital design board based on their space along with a shopping guide with all products and prices listed.  We met again to review.  Then, Sam and Laurie decided what they wanted and what they didn't.

The reason this nursery falls under the Nursery Styling instead of our full-blown nursery package is because Sam and Laurie actually did the brunt of the work.  I brought over a sample of a blue paint that is one of my favs [Breezy SW7616by Sherwin Williams].  They liked the paint color, so Sam and Laurie's Dad painted the walls while Laurie and her Mom went out and purchased the furniture.

By the time we came in with the accessories, the walls were painted and the furniture assembled.  All we had to do was add the finishing touches.  Take a look at the before and after video below.

Our Basic Nursery Styling Package includes: Nursery Assessment with Psych Test (1 hour), Mood board, Gathering of all items (4-8 hours), & Assembly of items in the space (4-6 hours).  For a basic styling, we have a package price of $625.  The picture above is a digital design board based on actual pictures of the space.  This can be added for an additional $125.  Nursery styling can also be done an hourly basis at a rate of $95 an hour.

Renee & Kim Head to Lone Star Baby to get the Glider

Tuesday, 22 September 2009 06:53 by Kim

Renee and I recently dropped into Lone Star Baby to pick out the glider for our BurbMom.net Project Surprise couple

As usual, silliness ensued.  Click on the pic below to see our great glider adventure.  See if you can guess which chair we chose and make sure to go to BurbMom.net to see the nursery reveal!

Things to Remember When Choosing a Glider:

1.)  Know Your Space Gliders come in a variety of sizes.  Make sure to measure the glider to assure you have enough space in your nursery to rock with ease.  It's no fun only being able to rock half way because you're afraid of damaging your walls!  And, if you're keen on a place to rest your feet (ottoman)...make sure to account for those measurements as well.

2.)  Comfortability! Once you've determined the size that will work best in your nursery...go for comfort!  The Rock Station as we at Peekaboo DG like to call it is typically Mom and Dad's (and big bro & sis's) favorite part of, not only the nursery but, the house.  Make that space a comfy one.

3.)  To Hassock or Not?  Many ask, "What the heck is a hassock?"  The answer is: a glorified ottoman.  Most of our client's want a place to prop up their feet, but the reality is that sometimes small spaces don't allow for it.  We highly recommend a place to raise your feet, so if you don't have room for the ottoman, we often create small ottomans sometimes called tuffets.

4.) Growing With Family This is a phrase we use often at Peekaboo DG.  When choosing a glider, think of how you can transition that glider into your next nursery and then later (after babies) out into the house...perhaps your master bedroom or den.  If this makes sense in your overall design scheme, then it helps justify spending a little more to get a quality glider.

5.)  Keeping Little Fingers Safe In researching gliders, we have heard complaints on the wood/metal based gliders.  The report is that little fingers can get caught in the movement of the  slats at the base.  This is not a problem with all wood/metal gliders, but be sure to verify this before purchasing.

6.)  Side Table a Must!  When planning your Rock Station, be sure to make room for a side table.  This will prove a very handy place for a bottle, book or maybe even your beverage of choice (whatever beverage that may be...we don't judge here at Peekaboo...Just remember to Pump and Dump, Ladies!).

Here were our favorite chairs according to comfort:
