Keeping Baby a Surprise Keeps Cash in Your Pocket

Keeeping the gender of your baby a surprise until birth is quickly becoming the new trend, but did you know it could also save you some serious cash?

It's kind of like eating Vegetarian to lose weight...ordering from a menu becomes a lot easier because your choices have been limited.  Once you are in that mindset, the majority of the menu becomes obsolete.

Couples who find out boy or girl during their pregnancy are limiting their 'menu' however, they're limiting it to irrisistable 'little man' or adorable 'frilly girl' items that become must-haves.  It's like trying to lose weight and only allowing yourself to order from the dessert menu.

Those who keep baby a surprise greatly limit their 'menu' upfront...delaying gratification until after the main event!

And, let's talk baby showers.  How many baby showers have you attended where adorable clothes and accessories were held up for all to oooh and awe over...meanwhile the couple is running out at the last minute to purchase the necessities.

With a surprise baby, I generally recommend a 'Conventional Shower' before baby where friends and family bring conventional gifts to help Mom and Dad prepare.  Of course, adorable gender neutral items are always scattered in with the practical.  Then, after baby is born, close friends and family are invited to a 'Sip-n-See' shower in pink or blue.  This allows everyone time to ogle over baby.  It also gives Mom (and Dad, too) a special time to anticipate after baby is born.

This could especially be a fun and relaxing time for Mom.  I have friends who have had 'Wine and See' showers where everyone gathers around with good wine and cheese and pass baby while Mom relaxes and enjoys the support of her good friends and family.  This also provides a great time for Dad to take that golf outing with his buds.

All of the above generally leave Mom and Dad feeling more prepared and less overwhelmed before baby.  It also gives them a break in the monotony of late nights and dirty diapers after baby...all while saving a little dough.  Can't beat that!
